This species is native to western Canada and the northwestern United States in Washington, Oregon, northern California, southwestern Idaho, southwestern Montana, southern Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, and Nevada.
This species is a perennial forb or subshrub that grows to a height of 8 to 32 inches. It has pale green leaves that are entire and stems covered in fine hairs, which gives it its common name "white-stem globe mallow", though it is also known by several other common names. It is known for its showy clusters of red-orange flowers that bloom from May to August.
