Manual of Grasses for North America: "Puccinellia maritima grows in coastal environments in North America and Greenland. It is native to Europe; most or all occurrences in the Flora region are probably the result of human introduction."
Type specimen is from New Brunswick. Listed in USDA PLANTS as native to Canada but Native/Introduced in New England coastal states, California and Washington. USDA GRIN states that the name is not verified. Encyclopedia of Life states that it is native to Western Europe. Further note on the genus from the Grass Manual (link below): "Polyploidy, selfing, and hybridization are widespread in the genus, and many of the species boundaries are controversial. Several of the species with Arctic distributions have received different taxonomic treatments in North America and Eurasia."
Perennial grass in Poaceae that is an obligate wetland associate, tolerant to saltwater flooding. Makes up grass mats, prostrate and spreading, 3-80cm high in coastal marshes in the native range.
