Rhizomatous perennial with alternate, simple leaves on arching stems. White, bell-shaped flowers dangle from the leaf axils followed by spherical blue berries.

Not widely cultivated. Sometimes listed as a subspecies of Polygonatum odoratum, which has a wider distribution in Europe and Asia and is also cultivated as an ornamental and medicinal plant.
