Indonesia and Western Australia

Evergreen shrub or small tree, with bipinnate leaves and large, yellow-whitish spikes. This tree grows commonly on moist soils of mountain slopes.  The tree is nitrogen-fixing and increases soil fertility levels.  It is fast growing with annual height increments exceeding 2 m under favorable conditions.

Cultivated as an ornamental. It was first spread beyond southwest Australia by Baron Ferdinand von Mueller, who gave packets of seeds to early explorers under the assumption that if they planted the seeds at their campsites, the trees would indicate the routes they traveled.
