Introduced by the US National Arboretum from Japan in the mid-1970s, 'Cabaret' is a popular cultivar of a widely planted ornamental grass. The variety condensatus has a slightly more restricted native range in China, Japan, and Korea than the species. Some sources list is as M. sinensis subsp. condensatus or as a synonym of Miscanthus sinensis.
