Southern Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.
Lythrum junceum is a perennial herb with spikes of attractive purple flowers that is native to southern Europe and the Mediterranean region. It is associated with freshwater wetlands. This species is easily confused with other Lythrum species, but can be differentiated by its solitary flowers in leaf axils, white petal bases, rose spots on its hypanthium. It has a sprawling, mounding habit, angular stems, and is rhizomatous. Flowers are tristylous with 12 stamens each.
Lythrum junceum is seldom cultivated.
