Native to Europe (i.e. Finland, Norway, Sweden, Austria, Czechoslovakia, Germany, Poland, Switzerland, France, Italy, Bulgaria, Romania, Yugoslavia, and western Ukraine).
An herbaceous, perennial forb native to northern and central Europe. It forms basal rosettes with upright flowering stems up to 40 cm tall. Each flowering stem consists of 5 to 39 orange flower heads.
Has escaped cultivation in the US and Australia.
