Is this plant a cultivar?  No

Life History:  Perennial

Growth Form:  forb

Much of the United States and Canada. USDA says that the exact native range is obscure. USDA PLANTS lists it as native in California but the Jepson Manual does not even include it as present in California.

A perennial forb/herb with yellow flowers in the Asteraceae family. Grows to 7 ft tall and is in the same genus as sunflowers.

An ornamental species with edible tubers, in the same genus as sunflowers.
