Australia: Australia - New South Wales [n.e.], Queensland
Weeping Bottlebrush tree is native to New South Wales, Australia.
C. viminalis is a perenial plant, large shrub or small tree with long drooping branches. It grows upright up to from 2 to 6 meters tall. Leaves crowded near the ends of branches. Crushed leaves have a lemon aroma. A popular landscape shrub/tree; widely cultivated rounded, evergreen shrub or small tree, generally with pendulous branches. Flowers are large scarlet bottlebrushes 4-10cm long, producing persistent woody capsules. Bark is grey and finely fissured. Pendulous branches will require pruning for pedestrian and vehicular clearance. The leaves of Callistemon viminalis are lanceolate 3-6 mm wide by 40-70 mm long but northern forms have a more elliptical-shaped leaf.
A popular landscape tree. In Australia, the genus Callistemon has many horticultural specimens which are generally noted for their flowers, adaptability and quick growth. The weeping bottlebrush Callistemon viminalis is an example of the group. It is a common landscape item in South Florida and is also popular in Southern California.
