The native range of Lathyrus nissolia includes Europe (excluding Scandinavia), the Mediterranean region, North Africa (Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, and Asia (Iran, Iraq, Israel, Lebanon, Syria, Turkey).

Lathyrus nissolia L. (grass vetchling) is a mid-sized (20-60cm), erect-statured, reportedly annual pea native to parts of Europe and the larger Mediterranean region. Its "leaves" are grass-like and technically only flattened leaf petioles, typically 4-12 cm long and with no tendrils. It occurs in moist fields and meadows where it has spread to dominate in some wetland meadows in Mendocino County, CA.
