Native to Europe. Northern Europe: Finland, United Kingdom; Middle Europe: Austria, Belgium, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Germany, Poland, Slovakia; Eastern Europe: Estonia; Southeastern Europe: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Italy, Serbia, Slovenia; Southwestern Europe: Spain, France
 

Native to Europe, this species is a herbaceous perennial known for its fringed, blue blooms with black-edged involucre bracts. This species is clump-forming and stoloniferous. Blooms are expected from May to June and this plant grows best in full sun. This species grows 1-2 feet tall by 1-1.5 feet wide. Lower leaves of this plant are lance-shaped and green.

Frequently cultivated in flower gardens.
