Australia [Tasmania, New South Wales (e.), Queensland (s.e.), South Australia (s.e.), Victoria]

This is a summer-blooming shrub or bushy tree native to Australia of variable height and width. It has been cultivated as an ornamental. Leaves are phyllodes (parallel veins) and they have a conspicuous basal gland and no resinous margins. Flowers are yellow spikes.

First brought to England in the late 1700's and then "was introduced into cultivation in California by William Walker at his Golden Gate Nursery in San Francisco in 1860." "Use[d] as a screen, windbreak or quick coverage of an unsightly object. Used a lot in the freeway plantings of southern California."
